In January 2023, Jonathan Randazzo was appointed Principal Trombone of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Jonathan began his position with the SLSO at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Prior to this appointment, Jonathan served as Assistant Principal Trombone of the North Carolina Symphony for 11 years, a position he won while in pursuit of his Bachelor of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music. During the 2017/18 season, he performed as Acting-Principal Trombone with the North Carolina Symphony.

Jonathan was appointed Second Trombone of the Santa Fe Opera in August 2017. He has served as Acting-Principal Trombone at the 10-week summer opera festival from 2021 to 2023.

 

Jonathan has performed with other orchestras as a freelance musician, including the National Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony and the North Carolina Opera. In the summers, Jonathan is a regular participant in the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, where he has performed with world-renowned conductors, soloists, and orchestral musicians.

In addition to his orchestral career, Jonathan has a wide array of solo experience, including appearances with the North Carolina Symphony, the Triangle Brass Band, the UNCSA Wind Ensemble, as well as the NCMEA and NCBA Conference ensembles.

An avid teacher, Jonathan served as Adjunct Trombone Professor at NC State University from 2015-2022 and is currently in high demand as a private trombone instructor. He has been hired as guest artist-clinician at DePaul University and the UNC School of the Arts, as well as at East Carolina, Gardner-Webb and Appalachian State Universities. He is also a founding member of the Southwest Trombone Conference, an educational trombone workshop featuring masterclasses, sectionals, chamber music and other performances.

Jonathan’s trombone teachers and mentors include Norman Bolter, former Second Trombonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Joseph Alessi of the New York Philharmonic, James Markey of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Willard Sprague, a local educator on Long Island. While in high school, Jonathan attended The Juilliard School Pre-College division program.
